In the case of uninsured motorist bodily injury, the insured and members of their household and passengers are covered for bodily/personal injury damages and even death caused by an at-fault uninsured driver. In such cases insurance will cover medical expenses up to the limit on the policy. Policy coverage for an underinsured motorist is similar when their policy coverage is not sufficient to meet damage expenses completely.

Uninsured property damage insurance covers the vehicle when property damage occurs due to an accident and the negligent party does not have insurance. If the insured doesn’t have collision coverage, underinsured motorist property damage coverage pays up to a certain amount for repairs. In cases when the insured carries collision insurance the underinsured motorist property damage coverage may pay your collision deductible, depending on your state of residence. It should be noted, however, that underinsured motorist property damage insurance is not a replacement for collision coverage. It is typically insufficient to cover all car repair/replacement costs, and applies only if the driver responsible for the accident does not have enough liability insurance coverage.
