Driving safety is naturally a topic of interest for many drivers. As a public service to current and prospective customers we include some tips here to help guard against falling asleep at the wheel of a car while driving. Tips include:
1. Stop driving if you feel sleepy.
This one’s obvious but the tendency of some drivers is to forge ahead despite being drowsy. A better decision is to stop if only briefly and drink a caffeinated beverage. Be aware that for some people it can take several minutes for caffeine to enter the bloodstream and become effective. Using that time to take a quick nap may also be a good idea.
2. Get a good night’s sleep before taking a long road trip.
Whatever your normal number of nightly sleeping hours is, try to get that much rest before launching off on a driving trip. At a minimum six hours of sleep is recommended, although this number is only a guideline. The main thing is to ensure that you as the driver are sufficiently fresh and alert.
3. Don’t begin a road trip after working all day.
You’re not 18 anymore are you? Even if you are it’s still not a good idea. It’s best to drive during times that you’re normally awake. Spend a few extra dollars and stay overnight in a hotel rather than driving straight through to your end destination.
4. Pay attention to what you eat.
Avoid high carbohydrate foods than can induce sleepiness. Proteins are generally preferable. Purchase and keep appropriate snacks in your vehicle if roadside fare doesn’t appeal to you. However, making stops along the way to eat can be refreshing as well.
5. Drive with a companion
Having a passenger to talk to is much more effective than turning up the radio. Holding a conversation requires interaction and that can help keep drivers alert. Plus if a second driver is available then a schedule rotating drivers is possible.

About Denver
The City and County of Denver is the capital and the most populous city of the state of Colorado, in the United States. Denver is a consolidated city-county located in the South Platte River Valley on the High Plains just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The Denver downtown district is located immediately east of the confluence of Cherry Creek with the South Platte River, approximately 15 miles (24 km) east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Denver is nicknamed the Mile-High City because its official elevation is exactly one mile, or 5,280 feet (1,609 m) above sea level. The 105th meridian west of Greenwich passes through Union Station, making it the reference point for the Mountain Time Zone. The city of Denver's area is much smaller than that of Colorado's second most populous city, Colorado Springs.
The United States Census Bureau estimated that the population of Denver was 598,707 in 2008, making it the 24th most populous U.S. city. The 10-county Denver-Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area had an estimated 2008 population of 2,706,947 and ranked as the 21st most populous U.S. metropolitan statistical area and the 12-county Denver-Aurora-Boulder Combined Statistical Area had an estimated 2008 population of 3,049,562 and ranked as the 16th most populous U.S. metropolitan area. It is also the second-largest city in the Mountain West after Phoenix. Denver is the largest city in the Front Range Urban Corridor, a fast growing Combined statistical area stretching across eighteen counties in two states. The population of the Front Range Urban Corridor CSA is estimated at 4,251,663. The city has the tenth-largest central business district in the United States. Source: Wikipedia.
