Prestige Imports Releases SUV Driver Safety Tips
Reputable autobody shop in Denver announces safety driving tips intended to increase the safety of SUV drivers and passengers.
Denver, Colorado, January 17, 2010 - Prestige Imports Collision Repair Center today released a public service announcement concerning safe driving practices that are particularly applicable to drivers of SUVs. Some models of SUVs with their respective higher centers of gravity have a statistical history of higher incidences of traffic accident rollovers and other serious risks. SUV drivers can reduce their risk by giving consideration to the following:
1) Maintain Alertness. It’s known that SUV rollovers often occur in instances when drivers become distracted, lose control, and are propelled off the road. While driving vigilance is important to all drivers, it’s perhaps especially important to SUV drivers given the higher propensity for some SUV models to be involved in rollover accidents.
2) Know your Vehicle. It’s important to know the limitations and/or driving characteristics of your vehicle. Drivers are advised to know how their vehicles perform when initiating various driving maneuvers such as cornering, wet road conditions, and other common driving scenarios. While some SUVs handle more like cars, other SUVs are built on truck platforms and have handling performance more like a truck.
3) Brake Sooner. In almost all cases an SUV will be heavier than a similar class car. Superior braking systems on some SUV models can help offset weight disparities, but basic physics means that heavier automobiles will require more time and distance to stop than lighter cars (other things being equal). Drivers are advised to test their braking distance requirements under safe conditions to obtain a better feel for braking characteristics associated with their vehicle.
4) Always Buckle your Seatbelt. This precaution applies to all drivers but SVU drivers may be at heightened risk of being thrown from their vehicles during an accident.
5) Choose Your Vehicle Carefully. Not all SUVs are equal in terms of safety. In fact there are significant differences in safety ratings so make this consideration a prominent factor in selecting an SUV for purchase. A lower center of gravity and broad wheel base are often recommended.
6) Check Tires. Regularly check tires for wear and proper inflation to help ensure they perform according to manufacturer specifications.
