Prestige Imports Releases Safety Tips for Motorists
Colorado auto body repair center Prestige Imports publishes safe driving tips as a public service to benefit Colorado area motorists.
Denver, Colorado, October 17, 2009 - Prestige Imports Collision Repair Center today released the second in a series of announcements of safe driving tips intended to benefit Colorado drivers. The items listed in the announcement include fundamental but often overlooked tips to keep in mind when driving. The list includes:
1. Observe Posted Speed Limits. This one’s obvious. Higher speeds imply quicker reaction times on the part of drivers to avoid hazards leading to accidents. It’s a fundamental fact of physics that higher speeds mean braking distances are increased. The risks of exceeding speed limits are seldom justified.
2. Use Turn Signals Correctly. Drivers that don’t signal turns and lane changes increase their odds of causing or being involved in an accident. More than a courtesy, use of turn signals is an important safety practice that all drivers should observe.
3. Avoid Blind Spots. Never drive in the areas known to be blind spots for other drivers. Virtually all vehicles have blind spots and the area to the left and slightly behind vehicles is a well-known one. Adjust your position in relation to other automobiles on the highway to avoid driving in blind spots.
4. Adjust Your Driving to Weather Conditions. Slow down when roads are wet due to rain or snow. One rule of thumb is to slow down by a third in the rain and by at least one half in the snow. If ice is present go slower still. Make sure your tires are in good shape and properly inflated.
5. Watch for Hydroplaning. Hydroplaning occurs when the tread on tires cannot channel rain water out from under a vehicle’s tires and the car begins riding on a layer of water instead of the pavement. In hydroplaning conditions motorists are advised to smoothly slow down by lifting their foot from the accelerator instead of braking. Gradually slow down until traction is restored.
