Use of waterborne paints is consistent with automobile painting methods used by European luxury car manufacturers such as Audi and others. Environmental proponents advocate lowering of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that are contained in traditional products used to paint cars. VOC is a broad term that’s often used to describe chemicals that evaporate from liquids such as paint, paint thinner, and gasoline. Such evaporations are considered harmful to the environment. The use of waterborne paints lessens VOC release and their associated risks compared to solvent-based painting methods.
Most of today’s cars are sprayed with waterborne paint at the factory.
